Despite the Suns 113-110 loss to the San Antonio Sterns, Amar’e showed what he is truly capable when his back is against the wall. Stoudemire dropped 41 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, including posterizing Richard Jefferson in the 4thquarter with a thunderous dunk. Amar’e traditionally has had huge games against the Spurs as they employ a strategy of trapping Steve Nash on the pick n’ roll. This leaves Amar’e in the lane matched up with switching guards who simply do not have a chance.

This loss was painful for the Suns as they could have tied the game on a wide open break away dunk by the 2-time slam dunk champion Jason Richardson. However, Richardson botched the jam and the Spurs were able to escape with the victory. Despite the loss, I truly believe the Suns are a better team the the Spurs. San Antonio had some extremely fortuitous bounces of the rim that allowed for offensive rebounds and on two occasions Manu Ginobili 3-pointers. Let us not forget that the Suns crushed the Spurs at home earlier this season by 12 points.

The Suns play tonight in a tough back to back at home against the Denver Nuggets. Denver is reeling from blowing a sizable lead against the Los Angeles Lakers yesterday. The Suns defeated the Nuggets on February 3rd by a score of 109-97. The Suns were in control virtually the entire game led by Stoudemire’s 20 points and 17 rebounds. Granted this victory was when the Nuggets were without Carmelo Anthony, so expect a tight battle tonight.
